Born in 1939 at Kolkata. Began his career with B.Sc. (Honours) and M.Sc. in Physics at the Presidency College, Kolkata. After serving in West Bengal Education Service (WBES) for about five years, mainly at the Presidency College, he went to Germany in 1965. Served initially as a Scientific Assistant with research works on Surface Physics (earlier Solid State Physics) at the Philips University, Marburg, Germany. Awarded there the Degree of Dr.rer.nat in Experimental Physics in 1970. He has made extensive researches on specific problems in Atomic Physics, Nuclear Physics and specialized on Accelerators, Ion Sources and Laser Applications. Dr. Mazumdar was faculty member of the Department of Physics, Marburg University, till 2002. He was also Guest Scientist at other German Universities, i.e., Giessen and Mainz. He is well conversant with IT and computer techniques and was the initiator of a IT based computer firm Soultek in Germany. Numerous publications in national and international journals and reports, with participation in many international conferences made him the renouned sceientist throughout the world. Dr. Mazumdar is a Visiting Professor and Distinguished Visting Scientist in Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata, Visiting Professor in Bose Institute, Kolkata, and at the SN Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata. He is also the Visiting Scientist at Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC) of Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Kolkata, Visiting Scientist at Joint Institute of Nuclear Physics, St. Petersburg, Russia, and at the Institute of Physics, Kyoto University, Japan. Dr. Mazumdar is the Fellow of Indian Physical Society, was a member of German Physics Association and New York Academy of Sciences. Dr. Mazumdar was involved with Azure for the last few years and to lead the Company in it's future growth, became the President from early 2004.
